Clouds

What do you see in this image? What do you feel? When was the last time you lay on the ground and lost yourself in the clouds? We have so many disparaging phrases for this kind of living. You are familiar with being told your head is in the clouds. As if there is one declared state of reality. The ground. But who truly walks on the ground if you do not have your head in the clouds? When was the last time you touched the earth with your hands? What does it mean to bring the heavens to earth?

There is a kind of shapeshifting that brings us fully into experience. When you become the cloud, you are not lost to yourself. You invite and are invited by the cloud to become more than yourself.

Take a breath. What are you breathing in? What are you exhaling? The air circulates. More than any of the four physical elements, the air does not discriminate. The air moves through one into another. The air disperses.

What happens when the air touches the earth and carries you into the soil? What would it mean to be able to breathe underground? To breathe in the earth? For the Earth to breathe?

The South Node is currently at 0°29' Libra, slow walking back to Virgo. There will be tremendous pressure and emphasis on zero degrees Aries in the coming months: the North Node will cross this point on its way to Pisces; Mercury and Venus crisscross here due to retrogrades beginning in Aries; the same can be said of Saturn and Neptune making big waves with an eventual synodic return at 45' Aries on February 20, 2026. What may get lost is the significance of zero degrees Libra. Not only is this the location of the Moon’s South Node transit, this is the opposition point for all the aforementioned retrogrades and conjunctions.

In order to better understand what the opposition has to offer, let us invite a focus on the relationship (Libra) between air (Libra) and earth (Virgo). On the zodiac wheel, these signs are either adjacent to one another (Taurus/Gemini; Virgo/Libra; Capricorn/Aquarius); square one another (Gemini/Virgo; Libra/Capricorn; Aquarius/Taurus); or they are quincunx (Taurus/Libra; Virgo/Aquarius; Capricorn/Gemini). There is a symmetry to these relationships that are thought of as uncomfortable, requiring negotiaton or adjustment. Why is it so crucial for the initiations transpiring at zero Aries for us to embody and embrace the air of earth?

This is about more than being grounded. More even than clean air. (Though it is about these.) This is about the compatibility of two elements that we have seen as separate, as incongruent, as wholly other from one another.

In order for the Aries new beginning to land, in order for the vision to take root, we need breathable ground. What does this look like? Walking on the earth with our heads in the clouds, feeling simultaneously the grief and the pain of all that Earth holds. Of all that has been lost or forsaken. Of all that has been destroyed. While also holding our chests high and breathing in all of the kindnesses we can recall, all of the moments of grace, all of the silence that envelops the noise, all of the space that holds matter. In doing so, we are bringing air to earth, we are supporting the Earth’s breathing.

So take a walk on the Earth’s side and breathe. Feel the weight of expansion and the lightness of gravity.
